The red and white colors of 14th of March garnish the campus of the American University of Beirut.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday were by far the most laborious yet exciting days for “Students at Work”. Three consecutive days of nonstop campaigning took place at the heart of the American University of Beirut and despite the rain and the changing weather, the SAW campaign with its red and white gadgets still managed to stand out and prove to be the finest campaign on campus.

But the hard work did not end on Friday; on the contrary, “Students at Work” is like a will be preoccupied like bees in a beehive from now and until Tuesday the 13th at 5pm when the ballot boxes have closed.

As for the expectations, SAW is expecting good results despite the new electoral laws. This is the “Students at Work” official page:

1- The New Electoral Law at AUB

Unlike every year, this year’s elections at AUB are not divided into two rounds. Students will vote for 109 SRC seats: each student will vote for the candidates that are running for his year in his faculty. (For example a sophomore business student will vote for the 4 candidates that are running for the sophomore business year). And instead of having a round 2 whereby the 109 elected SRCs vote for the higher executive cabinet (the USFC), this year, the students will also

directly be voting for the USFCs that are running for their faculty (For example, a sophomore business student will vote for the three USFC candidates that are running for ALL of the business faculty). The 15 elected USFCs will then elect the Vice President which is the highest elected position if the student body.

More on the new electoral law:

2- The Alliances

“Students at Work” is made up of the Lebanese Forces-Future-Kataeb alliance. As for the Socialist Progressive Movement (Eshtirake), they are running independently. The 8th of March alliance is constituted of: Amal-Hizbollah-Tayyar-Kawmi. Also, the Secular Club and the No Frontiers Club have a significant weight on the elections, they too are running independently.

It is important to note that AUB is made up of all sects, religions, ethnic groups and political parties and all are interested in the elections.
